Air conditioners are rated by SEER or seasonal energy efficiency rating. The SEER is like miles per gallon for your car.
For every increase of 3 SEER, you save about 20% on utilities. The current SEER rating for new air conditioners begins at 13 and goes over 20 SEER.
To illustrate, let's say a monthly electric bill for a 10 SEER air conditioner was $100, the same electric bill with a 13 SEER air conditioner would be about $80, and a 16 SEER would be about $60.
WHAT SEER SHOULD I CHOOSE?
If you plan to be in your house for years, a high efficiency air conditioner will save you money over the life of the unit. We can give you a free estimate to see which unit is right for you.
Air conditioners are rated by tons, such as 2 Ton, 3 Ton, or 4 Ton. The unit is selected based on the heat load and the direction the home faces. Large homes and homes with minimal insulation require a larger unit, and small homes require a smaller unit. We will do a load calculation to determine what size unit your home requires.
New air conditioners use refrigerant R-410A. This is an environmentally friendly refrigerant which is less harmful to the ozone layer.
